Today I travled to the beautiful city of Cannes on a mission, to observe the advertisments around the city and to compare the ads to those I see in the United States. Although this was my number one mission, I could not keep my eyes off the crystal blue water; it was truly breathtaking! However, after walking around the city for some time, I started to observe the different forms of advertising around me. To my surprise, I was not bombarded with ads as I am in the United States, instead I had to search for the ads. While searching for various forms of ads I noticed most were local ads with the occational universal car or perfume ads. For example, two local ads I took note on were for politics or for concerts. I found ads in many forms all over the city; on the bus, on moving boards, as posters and as billboards.I found the rotating/ moving boards somewhat irritating because I never got to finish reading the ad because it seemed to always rotate to the next one as I was reading the ad. I did however enjoy one particular billboard; the one with a man pointing his finger at you ( like the famous Alfred Hitchcock ). I thought it was the best placement in the city because it was at one of the most viewed area; the top of the castle. I thought the ad was simple yet intreging because it reminded me of the " we want you" ad that was used to recruit people during the war. Overall, I enjoyed opening my eyes up to a new perspective; interntational advertising!
